Foundations in Bellydance Class
 at 6p.m.
NEW class starts
JUNE 3rd...Tuesdays

Elizabeth Ehrhardt, or "Elliah" as she is known in some dance
circles,
has been belly dancing for more than seven years and draws inspiration
from many sources: Egyptian, Tribal Fusion, ATS, Folkloric and Turkish
Romany (Gypsy), to name a few. She also experiments with Flamenco,
African, Hula and fire dancing.  Her first teacher was Turkish and
emphasized the body, mind, and spirit connection.  Soon after, she
began taking classes with Karen Sun Ray and Xenobia, both of Florida,
who introduced her to her true passion: Tribal Belly Dance. Encouraged
by the dance community, Elizabeth joined the improvisational
performance ensemble Loud Zoo in 2002. She traveled around the
Southeastern United States performing at numerous conventions,
festivals, clubs/restaurants, weddings/parties, rallies, renaissance
festivals, and original stage productions.  Since moving to
Washington, DC in 2004, Elizabeth has been a performed as a member of
Raqs Caravan West and formed the music and dance troupe Alkemia with
the help of talented local artists.  She has also taught performance
and educational classes in community and recreation centers in the DC
area. In July 2005, Elizabeth organized the first Public Urban Ritual
Experiment (PURE) national event, coordinating members from all over
the country for a workshop and performance.  Later that year, she
founded the DC branch of PURE with a small group of dedicated dancers
and drummers.  PURE serves as a creative outlet for Elizabeth to
promote community and social change through dance performance and
education.

Why Movement? Teaching your body to move in a balanced way will help you to feel good in your body. Movement can elongate and contract muscles for healthy blood flow and nourishment to your tissue. Improve strength, stability, coordination, and body awareness with YOGA/ STRETCH Classes. Incorporating these skills into daily life will help you to be comfortable in your body. Start moving in your body daily. Watch your energy increase and your body relax. Increase your flexibility coupled with an awareness to know your body and it's limits.
Why Meditation?
Meditation is the simple action of focus. To stand and focus while washing dishes is a form of meditation. Our focus is to teach you how to breathe at the full extension of your breath and to give you visual focal points during your Yoga and Massage sessions. We all have something in common, we all can breathe. It is involuntary and a natural part of our being. The challenge is to learn how to breathe in a healthier way. Shallow breathing affects blood flow to the organs in our body and encourage muscles to tighten and atrophy.

Bellydance Foundations

3,000 years ago, in ancient Middle East and Mediterranean cultures, belly dance was not performed as entertainment. It was primarily a birthing preparation and ceremony; women would hone their muscles to prepare for pregnancy and childbirth. At the time of delivery, the feminine community would gather and dance to assist and celebrate the birth. WOW! Belly dance was not performed as an entertainment for men. It was a celebration of life performed by women for women at parties, tribal gatherings, and during rites of passage.  Through rhythmic drums exotic melodies, this earthy dance connects women to their bodies and to each other.
Learn one of the world's oldest dances in a community of friends and gain self-confidence through an art form that embraces all body types.
Belly Dance is very good for your health and is a unique way of exercising. It uses ALL the muscles in the natural movement of the body, while promoting creativity through expressive dance. Learn the benefits and experience the joy of dancing.

Pure Meditation-The simple act of focus, concentration, and reflection which will encourage a process of awareness. Integration of Body, Mind, and Spirit is essential in attaining well-being. Our Body, Mind, and Spirit are so gracefully woven as one, yet, can easily be so disconnected.
